Brig or Brig sloops were used by all the major navies during the Napoleonic wars. In the Royal Navy there were two main classes. There were 110 of the larger Cruiser class, which originally carried eighteen 6lb long guns. Their armament was soon increased to eighteen 32lb carronades plus two long 6lb chase guns, enabling them to be employed in many duties previously carried out by frigates. The other smaller Cherokee class, of which 115 were built, was armed with eight 18lb carronades and two long 6lb chase guns.
Our model depicts the larger Cruiser class brig.
This model is supplied with brass sails for the setting "All Plain Sail." However, also included in the kit are extra furled sails in white metal for some alternative sail settings. The hull is cast in resin, masts and deck fittings are in white metal, with gratings and ratlines done in photo-etched brass.
There is an optional tilt base made of resin, that fits the bottom of the hull so that you can show the model at an angle as if in motion. Choose from NNL34(s) for a starboard tilt, or NNL34(p) for a port tilt.
For a standard base, use NNL50.
